San Diego Comic Con 2014!!

This week marks the yearly migration of all things Pop Culture related to San Diego. WOOT!! And once again, Tiki Machine will have the slightest hints of presence on the grand convention center exhibitor's floor. Several of the contributing artists will have copies of the collaborative Art Books available for purchase and signing plus loads of other really cool personal art. So keep your eyes on the lookout for the goodness.

Tiki Machine's Mike will be there with Lucy in the Small Press Pavilion at Booth P-05 with Patrick Scullin, creator of the great webcomic Super Siblings. If you've seen any pictures over the past year of various events, your recognize this dynamic duo. It'll be fun! So come on by, say hi and help support DIY creators and self-publishers. See you on Wednesday!!

New Lucy book on KickStarter!!

I've been pretty quiet here on Ye Olde Tiki Machine blog of late (and the website too) as things have been all sorts of busy. We are still plugging away on this year's Collaborative Art Book but did hit a bit of snag there. We've also been busy with gallery showings, conventions and other like minded events. But the biggest reasons we've been MIA, is that we've been working really hard to get a KickStarter project launched.

Little Lucy is ready to take on her next imagination adventure and she's been dying to share her story with all of you. And the story is ready to go but we need your help. Self-publishing is expensive so we've set up a KickStarter to covering the printing and shipping costs. Please check out the project here and see if the book is something you'd help us out with by pledging. The rewards are very exciting as we have prints, actual Lucy Eats! FujiMama recipe cards, custom Lucy drawings and handmade replicas of Lucy's best friend, her stuffed rabbit Sammy. Handmade by Deborah even! Here's the link -

Thanks everyone!

ps - Lucy has her very own website now too, so if you wanna book mark it, follow this link - Little Lucy Adventures

Grand Opening!!

It's been a little more than a month since our last update. We apologize for the silence and for allowing time to get away from us. An opportunity presented itself to my wife and I (as well as to Tiki Machine as a small business) that we just could not pass up. It's really exciting and a little scary as we are getting way beyond our comfort level and taking a financial risk. But we are so stoked to announce it!

Tiki Machine will be in an actual physical, albeit temporary, location in the form of a Pop Up Shop! That's right, starting today, November 1st and up until December 31st, Tiki Machine will be a part of Community representing indie publishers and DIY creators, adding to the already unique retail experience in Anaheim CA. We will be located directly across from A Little Known Shop at 423 South Brookhurst Street, Anaheim, California 92804 - We will be in the same area where we had the Clash of the Classics book signing event.

Along with our 5 Tiki Machine books, Monster Mythos, Deus Libris, Illustrated Legends of the Old West, Clash of the Classics and The ABC's of Halloween as Imagined by Lucy, we will showcase 15+ other wonderful and self-published books from a load of our hugely talented friends.

Books like the new Muertoons Dia de los Muertos children's book, Paquito y Abuelito, Travis Hanson's Eisner-nominated fantasy epic The Bean and his Adventures for a Lazy Afternoon, Howard Shum's comic anthology Fusillade, Dave Kupczyk's Disturblingly Distorted and Deliriously Demented Rabbits, Patrick Scullin's graphic novel Super Siblings, and various graphic novels/sketchbooks by Matthew Hill.

If that's not enough to get you super jazzed, then this might; Mike Kunkel's The Land of Sokmonster and Timmy & the Moon Piece alongside new comic The SteamWorld Chronicles coming soon! And that's not mentioning all the postcards, prints, buttons and posters that will be available too.

Our goal is to have the Comic Con experience for those who wouldn't normally be there; a little indie bookstore that showcases the amazing DIY attitude and work that might not be available in regular bookstores. We hope you will come on by for a visit and support local artists and shops. Especially during the holiday season. See you there! And please, please, PLEASE! Tell all your friends about us. We will need all our friends and fans support to make this a successful venture, and hopefully and permanent shop. Tiki-thanks!!

A Little Known Shop

So this past weekend was the 90's Nostalgia Art Show and Craft Event held at the Community in Anaheim. Sponsored by A Little Known Shop, it was a blast! To review, it was held at the same space we had our Clash of the Classics Art Show and Book Signing. It's such a wonderful little community full of artists, crafters, do-it-yourselfers, entrepreneurs and the like who do such a wonderful job of uniting a little community together in good art, good events and good times. We really love the vibe of the Community and look forward to many more great events with them. A special Tiki-congrats goes out to them for such an amazing event! We're glad to have seen Clash of the Classics on the tables as well as see Dave Wagner and Mike Collins's personal 90's illustrations on the wall. Tiki-thanks to everyone for being so rad!

So much so, that A Little Known Shop is now carrying every Tiki Machine book available. Yup, that's right. If you need a copy of Monster Mythos, Deus Libris, Illustrated Legends of the Old West, Clash of the Classics or The ABC's of Halloween as Imagined by Lucy, you can find them there. It's pretty much the only shop in Orange County that has every available book on their shelves. Plus loads of great artwork from local artists and friends. Be sure to check them out and support local shops and artists.

Be aware that Tiki Machine will be participating in Halloween @ Community on Thursday, October 24th from 6 - 10pm. Deb will reading from Lucy's Halloween alphabet adventure and Mike will be manning a table full of our Tiki Machine wares. And both will sign or sketch in every book sold that night. So if you don't already have a copy of the book, then you can pick one up there!

Stay tuned here for more info as the date approaches but right now we are busy prepping for Keen Halloween which is in only two weeks!! Mark your calendars and plan on attending cuz it'll be AWESOME!!!

90's Nostalgia Art Show and Craft Event

This weekend, there will be a very fun art show and event held at The Community. It's the same place where we had our Clash of the Classics Art Show and Book Signing. It's a wonderful little cluster of DIY shops and even though the art show isn't a Tiki Machine event, several Tiki Machine contributors will have their personal works on display and for sale. It should be a great time so plan on dropping by! See you there!!

Aftermath of the Clash of the Classics Pop Up Gallery and Book Signing

Good Morning and Happy Monday everyone! This weekend was a LOT of fun! With only two weeks to prepare for a last-minute Pop Up Art Show, it was a success. (A big one too in my book!!) I believe around 18-20 artists (out of 47) showed up throughout the weekend to sign books as well as meet in real life with the other artists. It was a great networking opportunity with television animation, 3D feature animation, gaming, comics and children's book illustrators gathered in one area to showcase personal and collaborative art.

And the venue was amazing! Tiki Machine wants to send out a huge Tiki-thanks to Eva, Danielle and Syna for all their help in making the event a success. If anyone finds themselves in Anaheim, please, please, please go check out The Community at 423 Brookhurst. There is a collective of fantastic shops. Support local shops and artists by giving them some of your monies. Trust me, it's totally worth it!

The artists and myself had such a great time and love the space so much, we've already started discussing an event to be held there in December so stay tuned for details... but let's check out the festivities and what happened - Here are some pictures taken by Through the Looking Glass artist and new contributor David Wagner and his fiancee Maria -

Again, we'd like to thank everyone for coming out and supporting us! We felt the love: for the art, for the process and for the books. It was a wonderful event and we look forward to doing it again very soon. If you missed the show and are interested in purchasing a book, the Tiki Machine store is linked here.

Have a great week!!
